SUMMARY MINI GUIDE
A Day in capri
Where to Stay in Capri
Things to do in Capri
When to visit Capri
The best time to visit Capri is either May or August/September where you will have a better chance of good weather
How to get to Capri from the amalfi coast
If you are going to Capri for a day you will likely be visiting from one of three places: Naples, Sorrento or Positano. You can also visit from Ischia or Amalfi but some options will only be available during the summer months. The only way to reach Capri is by boat.

Ferry from Naples to Capri
There are two places to catch the ferry from Naples to Capri, either Molo Beverello or Calata Porta di Massa. The high speed ferries typically leave from Molo Beverello and take around 50 minutes to reach Capri, costing around €30 each way.
The slower ferries tend to go from Calata Porta di Massa, taking around 85 minutes but can cost a little bit less at around €20+ each way.
Ferry from Sorrento to Capri
To get to Capri from Sorrento, there are high speed ferries throughout the day that take 30 minutes or less and cost around €25 each way.
Ferry from Positano to Capri
To get to Capri from Positano, you will dock at the pier at Spiaggia Grande – there is no port in Positano. Ferries from Positano to Capri take around 40 minutes and cost around €28 each way.
Guided Tour
One thing we would highlight is that planning the logistics of a day in Capri can be tricky. There are things to do at port level, as well as high up above Anacapri at Monte Solaro and getting between these places can take time and involve very busy buses.
If you want to really maximise your day in Capri, we would also recommend taking a guided tour, to remove all the stress involved. This is what we did on our second visit and it honestly made things a lot easier. You can still do all of the things we include in the itinerary below, without having to worry about how to get between each place.
On our second visit, we did this tour, which included a trip to the famous Blue Grotto, as well as lots of free time in Capri itself and stops at some amazing photo spots so we would highly recommend it if you want a less stressful day in Capri.

Is a day in Capri enough time?
Seeing everything in Capri in one day can be a challenge. Ideally, we would recommend spending two days in Capri, one exploring by land and the other by sea. This one day itinerary will enable you to see and so almost everything in Capri but it does involve a lot of moving around throughout the day.
Ultimately, if you would like to relax, take in the views and save yourself from chasing buses and boats around the island, you should spend two days in Capri. Spend the first day exploring the centre of Capri, the Augustus gardens and the luxury outlets before going to Anacapri and Monte Solaro. Spend the second day on a guided boat tour around the island including a visit to the Blue Grotto.
Allowing yourself the time to enjoy these ways to experience of Capri individually is the best way to fully appreciate the beauty of the island. If you are staying in the Amalfi Coast as part of this trip, we have lots of great resources to help you plan your full itinerary including:

One day in Capri Itinerary
Morning
Alternatively, you can also take the bus but we found the funicular to be easier and more direct. The first time we visited, we made the mistake of walking as there were queues for transport and we aren’t very patient. This was a mistake, it involves lots of steps, it’s steep uphill and it isn’t enjoyable in the middle of summer.
When you arrive at the port in Capri, it will generally be a very busy area and can be slightly confusing. To get from here to the centre of Capri, the easiest option is to take the funicular, which is located right next to the port. Tickets for this cost around €2 each way and it runs every 15 minutes.
Once you reach the centre of Capri town, get familiar with your surroundings, visit some of the boutique and luxury shops along via Camerelle. Then go for a coffee at Piazzetta di Capri (the main square) before visiting the beautiful botanical Gardens of Augustus, which have beautiful panoramic views of the island.

AFTERNOON
For lunch, we would suggest trying out either Luce Capri for some great pasta dishes like Cacio e Pepe or Pomodoro or else Sfizio for a pizza.
Once you’ve enjoyed a nice lunch, it’s time to visit Anacapri and enjoy some of the best views on the island. You can get from Capri to Anacapri by bus and once you arrive there, go straight to the Monte Solaro chair lift. The chair lift costs around €14 return and will bring you to the best viewpoint on the island at Monte Solaro.
The chair lift takes around 10 minutes and is a fairly steep climb so just be careful not to have anything loose in your pockets or on your feet for the journey. When you reach Monte Solaro, grab some photos of the incredible views below before enjoying a drink with a view at La Canzone del cielo.
For this part of the day, we would really suggest relaxing and taking in those views before making your way back down to the port area for the final part of your day in Capri.

EVENING
For your evening, we would highly recommend this tour of the island by boat as the best way to finish a day in Capri. Having seen Capri from above, boat tours like this one that we did give you a completely different perspective of the island.
This is the tour we did in Capri on our second visit, which was perfect for an evening excursion after touring the rest of Capri earlier in the day. This boat trip leaves from Marina Grande and lasts around 2 hours and you will also be provided with some limoncello & snacks for the excursion.
We had previously done the full day tour so this option was great to enjoy golden hour in Capri before leaving and also gives you the chance to get photos at the stunning Faraglioni before the end. To us, a day in Capri would not be complete without seeing it from the water so we would highly recommend this excursion.
After all that, if you still have time to get some dinner in Capri before the end of your day, we would suggest trying Francuccio for an easy access option by the port.

DON’T FORGET TO BOOK
Boat Tour in Capri
This is one of the most popular trips you can take in Capri and places fill up fast so make sure to book your place well in advance.

If you are travelling on a budget, we would suggest visiting in October/November to get the most affordable offers.
We would recommend purchasing an eSim car for your stay in the Amalfi Coast.
Generally, we would consider Capri to be one of the more expensive destinations to visit in Europe. While there are cheaper alternatives, we don’t regret the additional cost that came with visiting this area.
Yes, if you visit off peak, you can definitely get some great deals
Capri is very hilly so visiting with a pram and baby equipment will be more difficult but it is still possible. We would advise visiting the beach down by the marina and sticking to the lower parts of Capri as much as possible to make it a little bit easier with young children.
The main things we would encourage you to remember are comfortable shoes, swim wear, sunglasses, suncream, some cash and a hat.

Thank You!!
