Best Day Trips From Palma: 3 Great Day trips to take in Mallorca
If you plan to explore Mallorca by taking day trips, then Palma is your best starting point.
We have just spent a month exploring Mallorca and big part of our experience was to plan out day trips from Palma to see as much of the island as we could while we were there.
All of the main roads and public transport connections centre around Palma making it the best place to use as a base and many of Mallorca’s best day trip options are within a one hour drive of Palma as well.
The great thing about the 3 day trips we have picked out for you is that they can all be reached by public transport, guided tour or by renting a car so you have complete flexibility to decide how you would like to do it.
We have visited Palma a few times in recent years and while you could easily fill a few days in Palma with activities around the city, we love to add in a day trip to allow us the chance to see somewhere new as part of our trip as well.
There are lots of great day trips from Palma available but in our experience the best options are Valdemossa, Soller & Port de Soller and Alcudia.
Each of these options offer something a little bit different but they are close enough to Palma allow you sufficient time to enjoy the location for a day without feeling like you are trying to squeeze everything in just for the sake of it.

How to travel on day trips from Palma
How you decide to get around Mallorca will largely come down to circumstance. For example, if you are travelling alone or as a couple and would prefer not to drive, public transport is perfectly suitable.
If however, you are like us and are travelling with young children, we would only recommend renting a car or taking a guided tour.
We have tried the public transport option and with prams/strollers and additional equipment etc. it is simply much too stressful, particularly during peak season when the buses get extremely busy.
Using a car or even a guided tour like this one gives you much more control and much more storage space in that scenario.
Overall, we would recommend car rental, it is relatively inexpensive and as the island is quite small, none of the drives are particularly long.
That being said, some of the roads around the mountainous region of La Tramuntana can be a bit daunting if you have a slightly nervous disposition.

Day trip from Palma to Soller & Port de Soller
This is probably the main day trip you will hear about when you visit Mallorca.
Soller is renowned for the beautiful wooden tram that passes through the town running from the centre of Soller down to the Port.

Getting to Soller
Again, this will depend on your circumstances but where possible the best way to get there by some distance is to that the Ferrocarril de Soller which is an open air wooden train going from Palma to Soller.
The train journey passes through the mountains giving you so much great scenery to enjoy along the way and
Alternatively, we would really recommend taking this guided tour like we did which will bring you to both Valdemossa & Soller, and also gave us a designated time slot on the wooden tram from Soller to Port de Soller.
If you would like to travel to Soller by public transport then you can take the 203 bus from estancia intermodal in Palma City centre. You can pay by card on the bus itself rather than purchasing tickets in advance. The drop off point is about a 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Soller.
Things to do in Soller
The main thing we would recommend doing while you are in Soller is to spend time at the main square before hopping on the tram from Soller down to the Port.
One thing to note is that if you are not travelling on a guided tour, the tram tickets can not be purchased in advance, only on the day of travel at the tourism office so make sure to do that once you arrive.
If you are a coffee drinker we would highly recommend trying the specialty coffee shop in Soller, Coccum and we also loved the Mediterranean restaurant Neni, if you wanted to get some dinner while you are there.
Once you make it down to the Port, it is essentially a long promenade with bars and restaurants where you can sit out and enjoy the view. But we would recommend taking your beach towel with you and taking a dip in the water while you have the opportunity.

Day trip from Palma to Valdemossa
The next day trip from Palma you can easily take is to Valdemossa, a beautiful cobble stoned village just a short distance from Soller.
Again you don’t necessarily need to spend a full day here but it could also easily be combined with spending some time in some of the other picturesque places nearby like Deia or Fornalutx.
How to get to Valdemossa from Palma
Valdemossa is quite easy to reach by public transport. The same 203 bus that will take you from Estacio Intermodal to Soller will also get you to Valdemossa.
The bus journey from Palma to Valdemossa takes around 30 minutes and you can pay on board.
Again we would also recommend taking the same guided tour that we took which will eliminate any of the stress involved in the journey
Things to do in Valdemossa
Valdemossa is a relatively small place and if you are limited for time you can get a good feel for the area within a couple of hours.
To start, we would recommend checking out Barbaflorida Cafe for a coffee/snack before taking a walk around the boutiques nearby. The cafe has outdoor seating but also has window seats with great views.
After that take a walk around the cobbled streets and explore the boutique shops which have lots of handmade souvenirs.
After that we would recommend heading over to Miradora de Valdemossa where you will get the best views of the Tramuntana mountains surrounding the area.

Palma to Alcudia
The final day trip from Palma that we would recommend taking is to Alcudia. This is the furthest distance from Palma of the 3 options we would recommend but can easily be reached by public transport as well.
How to get to Alcudia from Palma
The easiest way to get from Palma to Alcudia by public transport is the 302 Can Picafort bus which should get you there in under an hour.
You can stop at the Old Town, the Port or further down towards Can Picafort itself where you could have a beach day at Playa Muro.
Things to do in Alcudia
We spent a couple of weeks in Alcudia in 2025 so we are quite familiar with the area – we would recommend taking a look at our detailed guided of things to do in Alcudia if you plan to spend some time in that area.
Alcudia Old Town
Our main recommendation for a trip to Alcudia would be to spend some time in the Old Town. Again Alcudia Old Town has a similar feel to Valdemossa, with gold cobblestone streets lining the area and lots of great places to sit out for food and drink.
We really liked Malloria cafe, which has a beautiful courtyard area to sit out in and a really homely feel, well worth adding to your day in the Old Town.
We would recommend visiting on either a Tuesday or Saturday which are the market days in the Old town which runs until 2pm. You can buy local food and produce on the market days and there is a good atmosphere around the town on the day.
While you are in the Old Town we would highly recommend going to Basico restaurant for dinner, which has a beautiful outdoor terraced seating area. The specialty here is steak and the chef cooks the steaks on a barbecue pit in the courtyard itself.
For dinner in the Old Town we would highly recommend going to Basico restaurant, which has a beautiful outdoor terraced seating area. The specialty here is steak and the chef cooks the steaks on a barbecue pit in the courtyard itself.
If Old Towns aren’t your thing we would recommend having a beach day, with Alcudia having two of the best and most family friendly beaches in Mallorca.

Playa Muro
The best beach in this area is Playa Muro. The water here is crystal clear, there was no strong tide when we visited and the water stays shallow for at least 50 metres, making it very safe as well.
One of the best beach clubs in the area is also located along this beach, NuMa Mallorca, which is worth visiting on any beach day.
The other main beach is Playa Alcudia, which runs up to the Port, where many of the best restaurants in Alcudia are found. This beach is great for families, with designated areas for storing prams, as well as being wheelchair accessible.
The sand here is quite compact, there are a huge amount of loungers available and there is a playground available for families alongside the beach.
